Designing an urban centerpiece with community support.
In 2015, NBBJ was invited back to Dallas to conduct a charrette to evaluate the design of the Trinity Parkway and recommend how this design can be optimized to best advance the goal of creating a road that is a true asset for the Trinity River Park rather than a hindrance to the park’s future.
The essential findings of the charrette’s participants were organized into 20 observations/recommendations. These include designing the parkway to the scale of traditional American parkway, not an interstate highway; providing numerous places for people to move over and/or under the parkway to gain access to the park; ensuring the site is well-landscaped; offering drop-off points for scenic overlooks; and allowing curbside parking during weekends, holidays and celebrations.
