Consolidating services and cutting costs without compromising design, teaching mission, or patient experience.
UC System-mandated seismic upgrading and high rents near campus required UC Davis to look for innovative solutions for their ambulatory care services. The desired solution would include right-sizing clinical departments, strategic colocation of services, and maximizing flexibility for future use without compromising their teaching mission or patient care.
Working closely with the UC Davis Clinical Strategy Group to operationalize current practices and minimize non-clinical function in the clinical setting, NBBJ created a plan to consolidate all clinical services into the main Ambulatory Care Center on the Sacramento Campus - without compromising their teaching mission. By improving exam room utilization, specifying new paradigms in faculty officing, and designing universal exam modules, the 12-year plan consolidates three buildings into one.
The preferred option saves approximately $150M in construction and occupancy costs by consolidating services, improving room utilization by 25% (not to exceed 65%) for all service lines within universally designed clinic modules.
